FOLK
a busy cafe built and grown in the suffolk countryside. we’ve been folk’s creative partner for years.
One of the most recognised spots in the county, FOLK has grown into a trusted brand that has a backbone set in authenticity. Having worked with them for years, we’ve helped to develop their visual style and showcase the incredible environments that have been carefully crafted by the client team.
the challenge.
Since we begun working with FOLK many years ago, they’ve evolved into a bigger space with a much wider offering. We’ve been beside them on that journey and needed to continue to grow their approach to photography and videography, reflecting the changing nature of the business.
Authenticity was key in FOLK’s visual identity so we needed to translate that organic, candid feel across our work. Part of the work was to set up specific shots (especially those where menu items were being photographer ahead of being released) so it was important we made them feel anything but staged.
As you’d expect in a busy hospitality environment, the team needed to be considerate of service, the flow of guests and staff and understand the needs of the venue in differing days and times.
As FOLK turned from a small cafe into a larger venue that stocked produce and local lifestyle items, created a farm and a guest house, then a mobile coffee van, we needed to capture these and in a consistent style.
HOW WE MADE IT WORK.
We’ve loved making beautiful work for FOLK and being their trusted partner, all possible through:-
Ensuring Production was at the centre of shoots, planning our approach and giving room for changes that are frequent in hospitality environments
Moving with the brand by always reviewing our visual approach and ensuring our Art Direction and styling matched the journey FOLK was on. We baked-in a process of reviewing what we were creating and how suitable it was for what’s next
Understanding the environment and knowing how to get the most from our time on set and avoiding any disruption to service and the experience of guests. On top of that, the whole team are Food Hygiene Level 2 trained
Styling with textures that reflect the earthy, natural image of a venue nestled in the arable Suffolk countryside
Use a lighting strategy that leans into nature and works with the changing light of the day and the seasons. We use a clever mix of bounce, diffusion and shape to emphasise the natural textures in the environment
